This past weekend members of our Retire Tennessee program attended their final Ideal Living Expo for the year in McLean, Virginia. Each year the Retire Tennessee program participates in six shows across the northern United States. The shows are the premier event for potential retirees and second home buyers to learn about places to relocate.

This expo consisted of 70 vendors such as home developers, beach getaways and other businesses. Including the Retire Tennessee program, there were four additional Tennessee-based businesses showcasing the high quality of life and low cost of living we have in Tennessee. Attendees also had the opportunity to attend seminars with topics that include where to retire, real estate best practices and financial management tips.

Nearly 700 people visited the Retire Tennessee booth during the two day show. These attendees shared concerns of growing tax rates and limited outdoor recreation in their home of the Greater DC area. Attendees were thrilled to learn that Tennessee offers no income tax, no pension tax, and very affordable housing located near lakes and mountains. Many attendees had already considered a move to the state and were looking for more information on which locations best fit their needs. Each person was urged to take the next step and calculate the cost of living in Tennessee compared to their hometown. The calculator can be found at www.retiretennessee.org/cost-of-living.

Retire Tennessee is one of the few state-backed retiree recruitment programs. The program consists of 16 urban and rural communities located across the state. Each community meets the state's criteria of providing the resources and amenities needed to be a viable retirement destination. The communities have a unique offering of outdoor recreation, shopping, dining and more.
