The 2016 Governor’s Conference has come and gone.  After months of strategizing and planning, we feel confident in saying that this was our best conference yet. It was by far the most attended conference to date and participants helped spread the theme of Team Tennessee throughout multiple levels of the Renaissance Hotel over the course of two days.

If you missed the conference, here are some highlights:

  • TNECD COO Ted Townsend surprised Commissioner Boyd before the conference kickoff plenary session by giving a presentation of his own, which included photos of Commissioner Boyd prominently displayed throughout Tennessee. The photos, however, may or may not have been photo shopped by our talented marketing team.
  • Our Commissioner’s Luncheon keynote speaker, Martin Frey, gave attendees an inspiring talk focused on how to apply an adventure-driven approach to everyday life. Frey, a Guinness World Record holder and one of Commissioner Boyd’s heroes, is the first person to climb the seven summits and sail the Seven Seas.
  • This year’s plenary sessions gave insight and updates on three very different topics. Attendees heard from Health Commissioner John Dreyzehner, Agriculture Commissioner Jai Templeton, Tourist Development Commissioner Kevin Triplett and TNECD Commissioner Randy Boyd as they gave updates on Team Tennessee’s accomplishments, the Governor’s Rural Task Force and the importance of health in Tennessee.
  • We wrapped up the first day of the conference with a sports-themed reception and entertainment from Super T, a nine-piece rock and soul band.
  • If you know Commissioner Boyd, you know he is many things, but his dedication and enthusiasm would rank toward the top of the list. He managed to surprise all of us on Friday by showing a true and lasting commitment to the state on his arm: a Team Tennessee tattoo.
  • A new element we introduced to the conference this year was a photo booth complete with cardboard cutouts of Gov. Haslam and Commissioner Boyd. It was a lot of fun watching all of the conference attendees jump in, pose and have a good time in the photo booth. We hope you all had a chance to stop by and take a photo or two… or ten, in some cases!
  • We were fortunate to have theCO join us from Jackson and bring along the CO:mobile, a mobile innovation lab. Parked outside of the Renaissance Hotel, theCO gave conference attendees an opportunity to step inside and tour the bus, which is complete with individual work spaces, 3D printers and virtual reality simulators.

The 2016 Governor’s Conference could not have been as productive and successful as it was without all of Team Tennessee’s MVPs who took part in presenting and attending the conference. From our TNECD team to all of Team Tennessee, thank you for all that you do each and every day to help make Tennessee the best state to live, work and raise a family.
