First person to climb the Seven Summits, sail the Seven Seas to Address Commissioner’s Luncheon
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development today announced that Martin Frey, former director for Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development, will be the keynote speaker at the Commissioner’s Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016 during the 63nd Annual Governor’s Conference on Economic and Community Development. Hundreds of state and local officials, business leaders and economic development professionals will convene at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel for the event held Oct. 27-28.
The conference theme will focus on “Team Tennessee: MVPs” showcasing Tennessee’s innovative game plan and strategy in economic and rural development, entrepreneurship, workforce and more. Conference attendees will learn more about why Tennessee has the strongest starting lineup in economic development today, filled with our MVPs – the most valuable people, policies and programs.
“I am excited to participate in this year’s Governor’s Conference and have Martin Frey join us as we highlight our Team Tennessee MVPs,” Boyd said. “Tennessee is one of the top places to do business, work and live, but that wouldn’t be possible without perseverance and teamwork. Martin is someone that showcases what it means to be dedicated and strive to be the best. I look forward to showing what it really means to be a part of Team Tennessee.”
Martin Frey is the first person in the world to climb the Seven Summits – the highest peaks on each continent – and sail the Seven Seas. Apart from that great accomplishment, Frey also spent 13 years working as the senior director for Cisco and in 2004, served as managing director for the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
“I am grateful to join Gov. Haslam and Commissioner Boyd at the 2016 Governor’s Conference,” Frey said. “I look forward to sharing my experiences with Tennesseans, not only in economic development, but in accomplishing our goals in life.”
Frey summited his final peak in December 2012 and completed sailing his 7th sea in April 2016. His unparalleled achievement was certified by Guinness World Records, which acknowledged him as the first person to climb the Seven Summits and cross the Seven Seas by sailboat.
