Tiny homes are all the rage recently. More and more people seem to be turning to the “off-the-grid” lifestyle that allows them the flexibility to travel, explore and live wherever the wind takes them. Incredible Tiny Homes, a company located out of Morristown, is a company that makes these incredible tiny homes accessible and affordable.
Started in 2014 by Randy Jones, Incredible Tiny Homes is located at a 70,000-square-foot warehouse in Morristown. The idea of Incredible Tiny Homes originated from a need for a new career path for Jones and a way to start over. Before starting Incredible Tiny Homes, Jones was a teacher in Knox County and later built and owned a 170-acre resort in Pigeon Forge. In 2008, Jones unfortunately lost his resort and wanted to get back on his feet. He acquired a job working construction and that eventually led to his dream of starting Incredible Tiny Homes. Jones saw a need for affordable housing and went for it. The first home built at Incredible Tiny Homes was for a customer out of Durham, NC and sold for $18,000. After that, the company sold 10 more and has grown exponentially ever since.
So, what exactly is an Incredible Tiny Home? It’s just that: a tiny home that is basically built on wheels. These homes are built on trailers that are up to 8 feet 6 inches wide and up to 13 feet 6 inches tall. The homes can range in length from 16 feet up to 30 feet and include a full kitchen, bathroom, loft and dining room. The tiny homes include all the amenities one would need in a home, including air conditioning, plumbing and electrical, and are beautifully designed with high-end appliances, custom cabinetry and hardwood floors.
Jones prides himself in creating these homes for a lower cost than his competition. He does so by using recycled and used materials. The wood, doors, windows and all the framing comes from wood that has been forgotten or unused on other sites. By having such low costs, these homes are accessible to anyone and for Jones, that is the most important part of his job along with having a career that he loves.
“We’ve got customers that are grateful for what we’re bringing them at the price that we’re doing. And we’re able to make a living. It’s just a win-win and that’s our motivation here at this company,” Jones said.
